With the reopening of international flights, the debut of “Ado,” a beagle dog that will work as an “animal and plant quarantine detector dog” at Niigata Airport from January 17, was introduced on TV Niigata.

Quarantine detector dogs detect illegal meat products and fruits brought into the country in order to prevent infectious diseases of livestock, such as African swine fever. The first two animal quarantine detector dogs (for livestock products) were introduced at Narita International Airport in December 2005.

Since the year before last, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has placed approximately 140 quarantine detector dogs in 23 locations, including airports nationwide.
