A win in fighting against Pet Theft in UK
On July 2, 2018, the UK Parliament debated on the petition created by animal activist Dr. Daniel Allen, urging the government to reclassify the theft of a pet to a specific crime. With the support by various animal rights groups and over 20 Members of Parliament, Ross Thomson MP’s Pet Theft Reform Bill has been put forward after the debate. Although the second reading on the bill has not started yet, the UK government has already taken concrete actions.
Minister George Eustice clarified on July 5 that, pet theft is now a category two or three crime. This means that a violation to the crime could lead to an imprisonment of 2 years or even 3.5 years. This also means that dogs are no longer treated as property in UK. Dogs are always our dearest helpers, friends and families!
