Born in Shanghai, Genlin (birth name Peng Honglin) holds Japanese nationality and his Japanese name is Horiike Hiroshi.
Since 30 years ago, Genlin has been devoting himself to human-related charitable works, setting up schools, libraries, gymnasiums and scholarship funds for underprivileged students.
Genlin is the honourable board member, visiting professor and outstanding alumnus of Shanghai University.
In recent years, Genlin has expanded his charitable initiatives to animal protection. To put his life motto, “change human society, save dogs and cats”, into action, Genlin founded the World Dog Alliance in December 2014.
To expose the barbaric dog meat industry, Genlin went to the frontline, risking his safety, to capture some irreplicable scenes. He then endured the visual torture from the gruesome footage to edit them into the documentary “Eating Happiness”.Over the years Genlin has spent only his personal fortune on charitable causes to make this world a better place for human and animal alike. He never receives any donation from others.
