On 28 May, Genlin gave a speech before the school board of Shanghai University, characterizing two points:

1. Shanghai should become China’s first city to “treat animals right and ban dog meat consumption”. This is the symbol of a civilized society.

2. Shanghai University should set up a college of veterinary medicine, cultivating animal care medical staff and setting up the basis of animal research, and become China’s trademark.
