Driven by the WDA, the U.S. Congress established the Congressional Dog Lovers Caucus (CDLC) on July 7. It is a targeted initiative and fully consistent with the purpose of the World Dog Alliance. Different from “Animal Welfare League” in various countries, the goals of CDLC are as follows:
- Supervise and guide the U.S. government to strictly implement the “International Agreement to Prohibit the Eating of Dogs and Cats”
- Consider it an important treaty of the United Nations and call on all countries to join it as soon as possible
- Be signatory to letters to the heads of state in Asian countries that have not enacted laws banning dog and cat meat in order to lobby for changes in those countries
- Attain special funding from the congressional budget to send delegations of Congressmen to visit key countries
- Act as a political program for congressional elections where Congressmen can promote and encourage the American people to participate in this “New Peace Plan for Humans, Dogs and Cats”
The leading members of Congress are Democrats Jared Moskowitz and Susan Wild and Republican Nancy Mace, and the number of members is tentatively estimated at 50 to 60 people.
